The Global Sumud Flotilla is growing!
Nelson Mandela's grandson, Mandla Mandela, will be boarding the Global Sumud Flotilla, along with 10 other South African activists, when it reaches Tunisia on Sunday. He will be joined by French MP Marie Mesmeur and French actress Adèle Haenel. There's also a large delegation from Türkiye, including MPs, journalists, and artists.
The flotilla will also be joined by a Welsh team that Includes Nurse Leigh Evans, who some will recall pleading with Egyptian police to open the gates and allow aid into Gaza. Leigh has also recently been arrested by British police for peacefully protesting against the genocide.
An eight-strong Australian and New Zealand delegation is also joining the flotilla, including activist and documentary filmmaker Juliet Lamont and her daughters Isla and Luca. The ship will be captained by Hamish Paterson, a Queensland branch member of the Maritime Union of Australia.
The Tehran Times is now reporting that the flotilla is expected to swell to over 50 ships by the time it leaves Tunisia. However, Turkiye Today are reporting there could be around 70 vessels heading for Gaza.
