They dare not speak it's name!
Just for one split second there I had hoped that when Jason Stanley decided to write an article about why fascists hate universities, that he might include Israel's complete devastation of the academic infrastructure and targeting of academic staff in Gaza.. but no! Stanley meanders his way through various examples...
- Bangladesh's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina's failed efforts to introduce a quota system that reserved the majority of government jobs for specific groups.
- India's Narendra Modi labelling elite universities as “anti-India”
- Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán, who's been attacking Central European University in Budapest and driving them out of the country
- The current "unparalleled.. politically and ideologically driven assault" on a number of elite universities in the United States
Either Stanley is choosing to turn a blind eye to Israel's fascism or he too is a victim of fascism and dare's not speak it's name for fear of repercussions, because you can't talk about fascists hating universities and omit the most glaringly obvious and most brutal example of an attack on universities anywhere in the world.
